Title IX Overview
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Paul Mitchell The School Salt Lake City is committed to maintaining an educational environment free from sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. We take all reports of Title IX violations seriously and respond promptly and equitably to all complaints.
Our Title IX policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus or participating in school-sponsored activities. Any person who believes they have experienced or witnessed sex discrimination or sexual misconduct is encouraged to report it to our Title IX Coordinator.
Training Materials Disclosure
In accordance with the 2020 Title IX regulations (34 C.F.R. Part 106), Paul Mitchell The School Salt Lake City makes all training materials used to train Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process publicly available on this page. These materials are provided to ensure transparency and accountability in our Title IX processes.
All training materials used by our institution comply with the requirements set forth in 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b)(1)(iii) and do not rely on sex stereotypes. Our trained personnel approach all matters with impartiality and a presumption that the respondent is not responsible for the alleged conduct until a determination is made at the conclusion of the grievance process.

The following training materials are used to train our Title IX personnel. These materials are reviewed and updated annually to reflect current regulations and best practices.
Title IX Coordinator Training
Comprehensive training covering the scope and application of Title IX, the school's grievance procedures, how to conduct a fair and impartial investigation, supportive measures, confidentiality obligations, and reporting requirements. The Title IX Coordinator receives training on identifying and addressing systemic problems related to sex discrimination and sexual harassment.

Investigator Training
Training for individuals responsible for investigating formal complaints of sexual harassment. Investigators are trained to gather, evaluate, and synthesize evidence in a manner that is thorough, reliable, and impartial. Training covers interviewing techniques, evidence collection, and how to create an investigative report that fairly summarizes the relevant evidence.

Decision-Maker Training
Training for individuals who serve as decision-makers in the grievance process, including those who make determinations of responsibility and those who hear appeals. Decision-makers are trained to apply the preponderance of evidence standard, evaluate the relevance of evidence, and issue written determinations that include findings of fact and conclusions regarding the application of the school's code of conduct.

File a Complaint with the OCR
In addition to reporting to the school's Title IX Coordinator, individuals have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR). Complaints may be filed regardless of whether a complaint has been filed with the school.
