Curriculum
Level 1: Core
Build your foundation. Level 1 covers the fundamentals of cosmetology — hair anatomy, scalp care, basic cutting techniques, color theory, and chemical service safety. You'll also learn infection control, client consultation, and professional ethics. This phase prepares you to work confidently on the salon floor.
Level 2: Adaptive
Expand your skills. Level 2 introduces advanced cutting and coloring techniques, including balayage, highlights, and corrective color. You'll practice on a wider range of clients and hair types, developing your ability to adapt your skills to any guest's needs. Business and retail skills are also introduced.
Level 3: Creative
Express your artistry. Level 3 is where your personal style emerges. You'll tackle editorial looks, advanced color formulation, and complex chemical services. You'll also complete your state board preparation, build your portfolio, and develop the business acumen to succeed as a licensed professional.

How long is the Cosmetology program?
The Cosmetology program requires 1600 clock hours, which typically takes about 14 months to complete on a full-time schedule.
What will I learn in the Cosmetology program?
You'll learn cutting, coloring, chemical services (perms, relaxers), styling, scalp treatments, client consultation, salon business, and retail skills — all using Paul Mitchell professional products.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Financial aid is available to those who qualify, including federal grants, loans, and scholarships. Our financial aid team will work with you one-on-one to explore all your options.
What happens after I graduate?
After completing your hours, you'll sit for the Utah State Board of Cosmetology exam. Once licensed, you can work in salons, spas, editorial, film, TV, or start your own business.
Do I need any prior experience?
No prior experience is required. All you need is a passion for beauty and a high school diploma or GED.
